Design Considerations For Explosion-proof Drying Ovens

Unlike ordinary ovens, explosion-proof drying ovens have higher requirements for safety performance design. Ordinary electric ovens cannot replace them when drying certain items containing organic solvents or when extracting small amounts of heavy fractions using fractional distillation methods.

The flammability of organic compounds should be considered in the explosion-proof design of drying ovens.

Gasoline, alcohol, toluene, and paint are all organic compounds. The difference lies in that alcohol and toluene are mainly composed of one type of hydrocarbon, with relatively simple physical properties. Gasoline and paint, on the other hand, are often composed of normal and isomers of various hydrocarbons and other non-hydrocarbon impurities, resulting in relatively complex physical properties. However, they share the following common characteristics:

1. Flammable.

2. Able to dissolve other related organic substances.

3. Volatile.

4. The vapor of most organic compounds is denser than air.

Because gasoline and paint are mixtures of various hydrocarbons, before reaching their dry distillation point (temperature), as the temperature increases, the components with lower evaporation temperatures will evaporate into gases first, until the dry distillation point is reached. Therefore, for these types of organic compounds, a dangerous atmosphere always exists inside the oven until the temperature reaches the dry distillation point. Unlike simple alcohols and toluene, which can evaporate completely once the evaporation temperature is reached, these compounds require a period of time at a constant temperature.
